Pat was named Dowling Catholic Male Student Athlete of the Year in 2007 for his success on the basketball court and football field. Most of this success came in basketball where he was a three-year varsity player and earned the following accolades during his career:
• Iowa Coaches Association All District Team and CIML Central 2nd Team his junior year
• CIML Central 1st Team, Iowa Newspaper Association 4A 2nd Team, and Des Moines Register 4A 2nd Team his senior year
• He was considered for nomination to the McDonald’s All American High School Basketball Team

After graduating from Dowling, Pat went on to a stellar career at the University to the North Dakota where he contributed to back-to-back Great Western Tournament titles. During his junior year, UND advanced to the post-season College Insider Tournament.
• Selected as the Great Western Tournament MVP in 2011
• Ranks 2nd in all-time blocked shots (157) and 3rd in 3 pointers made (205) and 3-pointers attempted (546)
• Tied school record with 10 3-pointers made and scored career-high 33 points in single game
• One of two individuals to finish his career with over 1,000 points, 500 rebounds and 150 blocked shots

Upon graduation from UND, Pat turned down an opportunity to play professional basketball in Portugal to pursue a spot in the Australian Football League where he currently plays with the Sydney Swans. The August 4th 2013 afl.com article which publicized his signing with the Swans had this headline – Swans Sign 201c American Rookie.
