Wrestling occupied a great deal of extra-curricular time for Chris Coppola. He contributed to Dowling winning the State Dual Team Championships for the years 1989-1992, and to Dowling’s State Championship at Vets Auditorium with finishes of 2nd place in 1989, and 1st place in both 1990 and 1991. The team was 3rd in State in 1992.

In 1992, Chris was both the Individual State Champion and Freestyle State Champion. He won the Keith Young Invitational in Cedar Rapids, was a two-time Urbandale McDonald’s Tournament Champion, two-time All Conference Champion, and two-time District Champion. Chris was a member of the Iowa All-Star team and a two year member of the Iowa Freestyle National team.

His high school years culminated in numerous collegiate scholarship offers. He went on to attend Drake University where Chris obtained a record of 24-10 as a red shirt freshmen. He received W.A.C. All Academic/Athletic Honors, and was awarded Drake's Outstanding Newcomer of the year. Drake's wrestling team was ranked 17th in the nation for Division I schools. His wrestling career abruptly ended when Drake dropped the collegiate program. He went on to attend the University of Iowa and Drake Law School. He has been practicing law in West Des Moines since 1999 as a partner at the Coppola Law Firm.

Coppola is married to his wife Deborah. They have 2 children, Anthony and Calli. He is a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in West Des Moines, and enjoys attending family activities, snowmobiling, softball, golf, and practicing law with his father. He also enjoys coaching his son Anthony's football team and watching Calli play soccer and gymnastics. Anthony started wrestling for the Maroon Kid's program a couple years ago.
