Joe was a stand-out wrestler and football player in high school. His senior year he was Captain of the South Team in the Shrine Bowl and during his career he started 31 football games for the Maroons.

• Started 10 Varsity Football games as a Sophomore in 1988
• All-Metro in Football and Wrestling 1989 and 1990
• Member of the Dual Meet State Championship team during the 1989-90 and the 1990-91 Wrestling Seasons (Recorded 23 wins in 89-90 and 24 wins in 90-91)
• Named Des Moines Register Second Team All-State Football in 1989
• Named Des Moines Register First Team All-State in Football in 1990
• Named Captain, MVP and Elite Team All-State in Football in 1991

Post high school, Joe attended the University of Kansas where he played football. He also went on to earn his Bachelor’s in Education, Master’s Degree in both Curriculum and Instruction and School Administration, and his Doctorate of Education in Education Policy and Leadership.

• Earned Varsity Football letter and voted University of Kansas Rookie of the Year 1993
• Earned Academic All Big Eight honors 1993
• Dean’s List 1992 and 1993

For the past 9 years, Joe has been the principal at Bonner Springs High School in Bonner Springs, KS. Prior to his current position, Joe was a teacher and coach for 11 years at several different high schools. In addition to teaching and coaching, he is very passionate about helping high school athletes understand the college recruiting process and has written two books on the subject, The Next Level – A Preps Guide to College Recruiting and College Football Recruiting Handbook – A Parent and Prep’s Guide to Earning a College Football Scholarship. Joe is also an adjunct professor at the University of Kansas, where he teaches in the School of Education’s Doctoral program. Joe and his wife Melissa and have four children.
