John McCarthy ‘69, participated in baseball, basketball, tennis, cross country and football. John earned many accolades including; All City Basketball, All City Baseball, All State Basketball and All State Baseball. He was honored as Most Valuable Player for baseball and basketball in 1969. During his years here at Dowling, in addition to his athletic honors, he served as President, Vice President and Secretary of his class. He also served as the Student Council Secretary 1966. He was a member of the All City Student Council and the Junior Chamber of Commerce in 1968.

John continued his education at Creighton University, participating in basketball and baseball earning a Varsity letter 1970 to 1973. John currently serves on the Board of Directors at Marillac Children’s Hospital as the Executive Director. He is a member of the Rotary International and the Leawood Rotary, 1999-2009.

John remembers that if you wanted to get involved, Dowling was the school, with the encouragement and support of a great faculty, teachers and coaches! He commends his parents for their sacrifice which enabled him to attend Dowling and provide a great Catholic education.

John now resides in Overland Park, Kansas with his wife Kay and three sons; Brian, Kevin and Dan.
