• While at Dowling, Pete concentrated on three sports: baseball, football and basketball
• In 1946 he was named Top Pitcher of Dowling Baseball
• Pete was the quarterback of Dowling’s 1946 Catholic State Championship team
• He played guard on the school basketball team
• His post-high school career highlights include a brief time with the Cubs Class A Des Moines team, then called the Des Moines Bruins. He played just one game, beating Denver 5-3, before being sent to the Cubs Class B team in Decatur, Illinois. From there he jumped ship to the Lincoln A’s in Nebraska, coming back to Des Moines where they beat the Cubs 4-1. He was named to the All Star Team in 1947.
• With his wife Colleen, who passed away in 2005, they have seven children. Pete lives in West Des Moines.
