Tommy was a member of the National Honor Society and a recipient of the Aquinas Key Excellence Medal. He earned three letters in football as an offensive and defensive lineman and three letters in baseball and basketball. He was recognized with first team all-state and all-conference honors as a senior and was selected to compete in the Iowa Shrine Bowl. He also served as a team captain of the football team.

He went on to play football at the University of Iowa where he won the Bud Flood Fighting Hawk and Next Man in Iowa awards. He graduated with a degree in economics and finance from the Henry B. Tippie College of Business at the University of Iowa. He currently works as a Manufacturer Sales Representative for Central Sales, Inc. and serves as a sophomore offensive line coach at Dowling Catholic.

The friendships he developed with teammates and the support from teachers, coaches, classmates and others in the DCHS community are what he remembers most about his high school experience. He is grateful for the environment Dowling Catholic provided for him as a student and for the opportunity to continue to be a part of it as a coach.
