In 1955, Harold Faber received All­-City honors for basketball and football. In 1956, he averaged 16.5 points per basketball game. That season, Harold set the Des Moines basketball All­-City record for single­-game high scoring (37 pts); he held that record for several years. Harold was named All­-State for basketball in 1956. In football, Harold had the best punting average in the city. For track and field, he made his first attempt at the football throw at the Cardinal Relays in 1956, where he placed 1st with 185’ 7” throw. In 1957, Harold was on the Class­-A State Championship basketball team. He played 68 consecutive varsity basketball games in 3 years. He was named All­-State again in 1957. Harold attended University of Northern Iowa and Drake College. In May of 1959, he married his high school sweetheart, Theresa Swift. They raised seven children; Lisa, Lori, K.C., Hal, Patty, Mike and Johnny. All seven attended Saint Augustin Catholic grade school and most attended Dowling High School. Harold and Terri chaired the 1978 Dowling Annual Pancake breakfast. Harold had a very strong faith in God. His daughter Lisa writes, “He was a hard working, amazing and compassionate individual with strong Catholic and family values.”
