Matt Dillon

Coach

Coach Dillon is a 33-year veteran football coach who has served at either the high school or college level in Iowa, Florida, Georgia, Montana and Texas. He was head coach at Dowling Catholic from 1996-2005.

He has earned many accolades throughout his career, including 14-time selection as coach of the year at various levels. He was a finalist for the State of Iowa Coach of the Year in 1997 and 1998 before being selected for the top honor in 2000. During his time in South Florida he was twice named All-Star Head Coach of the Year. Prior to beginning his coaching career he also earned many honors as a high school and college quarterback and holds a spot in the Cornell College Athletic Hall of Fame.

What he remembers most about his time at DCHS is the spirit and faith that was and is Dowling Catholic. He was honored to be entrusted for nine seasons with the program that was built by Coach Williams, carried on by Coach Nizzi and Coach Mauro, and believed in so strongly by the students and athletes. The crowning achievement of his career was the opportunity to serve as head football coach when the Maroons won their first two back-to-back state championship titles in 2000 and 2001.

He is incredibly proud to be part of the Dowling Catholic tradition, but is even more proud of the fact that his three children, Zach Dillon ‘01, Sami Dillon ‘04 and Joe Dillon ‘06 can all call themselves Dowling Catholic graduates. He currently serves as head football coach at St. Edmond Catholic School in Fort Dodge, Iowa.
