Ben Boesen received 10 Athletic letters while at Dowling Catholic- 4 in track, 3 in football, 2 in basketball and 1 in bowling. Ben is most proud of variety of sports in which he participated because of the contribution it makes to Dowling Catholic’s team’s success, spirit, and brotherhood.

In football, as a senior, Ben helped lead the Maroons to an undefeated 14-0 state championship season; caught 21 passes for 285 yards and five touchdowns from the tight end position; led defense with 72 tackles, 12 for loss; was a team captain and was an Iowa Newspaper Association Class 4A first-team all-state honoree. He had similar stats as a junior, and played on defense as a sophomore making 29 tackles, seven for loss. In basketball, Ben helped get his team to the State Tournament his junior year, was team captain his senior year.
In track, Ben qualified for the State Track meet every year. Throughout his 4 years at Dowling, he helped teams qualify and win medals at State in the 4X800, 4x400, Distance Medley and Shuttle Hurdles. Individually, he qualified in the 400 hurdles, 110 hurdles, and open 400. He earned 2nd or 3rd place medals in the 400 hurdles during his junior and senior years at the Drake Relays and State Meet. Ben still holds the school records in the 400 hurdles, and as part of the 4X400 relay and shuttle hurdle relay at Dowling.

During the 2010/2011 season, Ben helped his teams win Conference Champion titles in Football, Basketball and most notably Track-first time in years (if anyone know the actual date that would be helpful). Ben also placed in the Conference Bowling meet his senior year.

Ben received the Dr Breedlove award, the Nick Niedert award and was named Dowling male athlete for 2011.

Ben’s most valued mementos from his years playing sports at Dowling, (as well as before in Catholic Football League, and after at ISU, are not the medals, rings, watches or certificates. But instead, the many letters from Coach Williams noting any accomplishment, regardless how minor. He will never forget the friendships and bonds he made playing athletics at Down Catholic.

Ben accepted a preferred walk-on offer at Iowa State for football, earning a scholarship his 2014 season. He played Tight End and on Special teams in eight games in 2013, sidelined because of a knee injury, and played in all 12 games his 2014 and 2015 seasons. He was awarded Special Team Scout Team Player of the Year in 2012.

Ben received his degree in Construction Engineering from Iowa State in 2015, immediately went pro and is currently playing on the Weitz Corporation Team in Des Moines at the position of Project Engineer.
